2009-2010 School Improvement Goals
Trafalgar Elementary School

Reading Goal

For the 2009-2010 school year, Trafalgar Elementary will increase the percentage of students identified as the lowest 25% making learning gains in reading from 73% to 75% according the Florida School Grades report.

Math Goal

In 2009-2010, the percentage of our students making learning gains on the FCAT math assessment will increase from 66% to 70% as measured by the School Grades Report.

Writing Goal

In 2008-2009, 98% of 4th grade students met or exceeded standards on FCAT Writing. For the school year 2009-2010, 90% of Trafalgar Elementary 4th grade students will meet or exceed standards on the FCAT Writes assessment as measured by the AYP report.

Science Goal

For the school year 2009-2010, the percentage of students that will meet or exceed standards on the FCAT Science assessment will increase from 64% to 66%.

Parent Involvement Goal

For the school year 2009-2010, our goal is to build better communication between parents and the school. The PTO will increase the number of monthly columns for the newsletter (Trafalgar Gazette) from zero to a minimum of 6.

Additional Goal-Reading SAT 10

In 08-09 94% of K-2 students met or exceeded standards on the SAT 10. For the school year 2009-2010, 95% of Trafalgar Elementary K-2nd grade students will meet or exceed standards on the Stanford 10 reading assessment.

Trafalgar Enrichment Clubs

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering a variety of enrichment clubs for our students. Because of our new start time, most of the clubs will be offered in the afternoons from 2:00 – 3:00 PM.  Parents must agree to pick up their child at 3:00 PM or the child will be sent to the Voyages program and parents will be assessed the registration and daily fee.  Children already enrolled in the Voyages program will be sent to Voyages at the conclusion of their club.   We will also be offering morning clubs.  Our Track Club will meet at 6:45 AM – 7:30 AM. The other morning clubs meet 7:30-7:50 AM.  Parents will need to provide transportation to school for members of Track Club.  All of our clubs will begin on September 21, 2009.  There will be a two week grace period for students to decide if they would like to remain in their chosen club/s, join another, or withdraw from the club completely. During the week beginning October 5th, our club members will be set and only students new to our school will be permitted to join after this date. Students will not be permitted to quit one club to join another without permission from their parents and the club sponsors. Club members will be expected to attend every meeting of their club unless absent from school. A written excuse note should be brought to the club sponsor when the child returns to school. Carefully review the brief descriptions of the clubs and contact the sponsor if you require further information.

1st Thursday of Every Month 2:00-3:00PM

Each class will elect one representative to be a member of our student council. Parents will be notified if their child is elected. Meetings will be the first Thursday of every month.

Drama Club (K-3rd Grade) Tuesdays 2:00-3:00 PM & (3rd-5th) Thursdays 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Sponsors: Mrs. Trepkowski, Mrs. Blanco, Mrs. Yoak, Mrs. Campion

This year Trafalgar’s Drama Club is open to all Students.  We provide students with opportunities to learn about different types of theater.  They will also be responsible for creating props, choreography and acting in plays. Parents are responsible for supplying costumes for their child. Due to the limited number of parts per show, we will be holding try-outs. Please sign-up if you are interested and we will contact you for your try-out date.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Computer Club                                 Sponsors: Mrs. Perry, & Mrs. Stumpf

Thursdays 7:00 7:30 AM                                                                                                                               

This club will be using our computer lab to explore basic computer knowledge utilizing games and key boarding skills. Please note that this club is limited to 20 students. If more students show interest, parents will be contacted about the possibility of rotating members for a certain time period (for example the first 20 students attend the first 9 weeks of clubs the second 20 students attend the second 9 weeks of clubs, etc…)

Learn the game of kings. Students will be taught the basics and advanced skills of playing chess and compete in tournaments.  No experience playing chess is needed.

Scholars' Club is a program of the Public Schools Enrichment Partnership (PSEP).  PSEP is a community-supported grogram of Florida Gulf Coast University's College of Education. Our elementary club offers a unique opportunity for K-5 students to grow in the areas of academics, leadership, and community service.  Membership requirements are: Teacher nomination, Good citizenship, 2.5 GPA or higher.  All members must submit a membership application and adhere to all membership policies as set by Scholars Club.

Ecology Club (4th and 5th Grade)                           Sponsors: Ms. Corace, Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Hamstra, Ms. Mazon, Ms. McInnis, Ms. Hurley, Ms. Kerans, Mrs. Holycross, Mr. Bombassaro, Mrs. Hinote

Mondays 2:00 – 3:00 PM                                        
The Ecology Club attracts students who want to discover the Florida Ecosystems. We will study plants, habitats, and animals of Florida. Hands on activities as well as optional weekend and overnight trips will be provided.

Track Club (K-5th Grade)                                                      Sponsor: Ms. Corace                                              Fridays 6:45 – 7: 30 AM

The Track Club is for all students interested in developing their distance running skills. Programs will be individualized and students carefully monitored. This club meets a different time then the others to allow children to change clothes (if needed) and eat breakfast before going to class. Track will meet at 6:45- 7:30 AM. Track Club members will be encouraged to participate in many local races as well as school events held this year.

Advanced Recorder Consort                                                                          Sponsor: Ms. Holycross                

Thursdays 2:00 – 3:00 PM and Monday – 7:30-7:50 AM

Advanced Recorder is for students who have earned a blue belt or higher and can play “When the Saints Go Marching In”.  They will meet on Thursday afternoons from 2:00-3:00 PM AND Monday mornings from 7:30-7:50 AM.  Performers for the Recorder Consort will be chosen from these students.  The Recorder Consort will be performing through out Lee County including at the Medieval Faire.  Only students who attend the Advanced Recorder practice on a regular basis will have the opportunity to perform with the Recorder Consort.  Advanced Recorders will not start until November 5, 2009 due to the music/art schedules.

TES Choir (3rd & 5th grade)                                     Ms. Holycross & Ms. Bisbe                                               Tuesdays – 2:00– 3:00 PM  and Wednesday – 7:30-7:50 AM                                                                        

The Choir is open to 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students.  The choir represents our school through out Lee County by performing at the Edison Home Holiday House, Cape Coral Tree Lighting, and Broadway Night.  Our programs include singing, dancing, and speaking parts.  The choir will rehearse on Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 – 3:00 PM AND Wednesday mornings from 7:30 to 7:50.  Choir will not start until November 3, 2009 due to the music/art schedules.

Sweatshirts and sweaters in the same color are preferred but not required.  Uniform shirts, sweatshirts and pants with the school logo will be available at our school store.  No other sweatpants will be allowed.

Uniforms are available at area stores, but not limited to Bealls, Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, JC Penney, Dillards and Macy's.

  • Any article of clothing/jewelry that may cause injury or deemed a distraction to the educational process such as chains, belts, bracelets, earrings, chokers, wallet chains and all items hanging from belt loops.
  • Hats, headbands, bandanas, caps or headgear are prohibited except for P.E., field days or outdoor activities
  • Wrong color shirts. See colors listed above.

ENFORCEMENT POLICY

1st offense: A warning notice sent home – minor infraction.

2nd offense: A warning notice sent home and parent is notified with second minor infraction.          

3rd offense: The child waits in the learning lab until parent brings charge of clothes. If parent not available, child wears a borrowed uniform from the swap shop.

4th offense:  A major discipline infraction is issued.
